The Gallery Room, in a separate building in the garden, functions as a white cube gallery space when exhibitions are on, and the rest of the year it is a bijoux self-contained studio with en-suite Bamboo Bathroom. It has a double bed, mini-kitchenette, underfloor heating and a small conservatory. It has its own terrace with French doors leading to the Blackberry Hill patio and its own street entrance.

NB Covid guidance

The Gallery room is completely self-contained in a separate building from the house with its own street entrance so no interaction with anyone else is assured. We have very high standards of hygiene and can assure you of a very safe, comfortable place to stay.

Self check-in is the usual way of accessing the house.

The whole house is furnished with retro/vintage/antiques along with many pieces Kay has collected on her travels. Additionally, the permanent collection of ceramics and 2D work is in evidence everywhere.

Garden
The garden is really special; it is a private, lovely space full of artwork and flowers. There are four different levels all with ceramic tables and chairs and tiled installations feature everywhere.

Breakfast is not provided but there are several good cafes for breakfast within 5 minutes walk at Fiveways, where there is a shop to suit every requirement and good pubs too not far away. You can also make your own breakfast in the Gallery. There is a mini fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave as well as tea/coffee making facilities are available in each room. Laundry and kitchen facilities are available for stays of a week or more.

Transport
Free parking on the street. The number 50 bus stops on Stanmer Villas and goes direct into the centre of Brighton. The 50U goes to the Sussex/Brighton University campuses in Falmer. More buses stop at Fiveways. Walking into the city centre takes 20 minutes or it’s a 10 minute cycle ride.

Nature/South Downs
Hollingbury Woods and the Golf Course are just at the end of the road, which is where the South Downs begins. Great walking and views.The South Downs is Britain’s youngest national park and the South Downs Way is a long distance walk and one of Britain’s national trails, running for 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne.

Brighton attractions
Brighton has many attractions, including The Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier, the beach and the Lanes/North Laine.

Brighton Festival­
Most years, in May, Kay curates exhibitions of contemporary ceramics at The Ceramic House. The exhibition is open to the public at weekends only, and it is part of the Brighton Festival, the second biggest arts festival in the UK (after Edinburgh).

Proximity to airport/port
Brighton is 30 minutes on the train from Gatwick airport and 20 minutes from Newhaven for ferries to France.

Proximity to universities
Brighton has two universities. Sussex University Campus is at Falmer, accessible by the 50U bus which goes direct from Stanmer Villasand also by train from Moulsecombe and from London Road stations. Both stations are 15 minutes’ walk from the house. Brighton University has a campus in Falmer next to Sussex and at various other sites, varying between 15 and 30 minutes’ walk depending on which site. Buses to all sites from Stanmer Villas/Fiveways.

Guest access
You are most welcome to have a look around the house apart from the other private rooms. There is artwork to see everywhere. You are welcome to use the garden. The kitchen and utility room (cooking facilities, washing machine, dryer) are available to use if you stay a week or or more.

Other things to note
There may be other guests staying in the house, so please be considerate.
No smoking except in garden.
Quiet after 9pm please.
