In 2017 Kay created a new entranceway into The Ceramic House, finally eradicating any uncertainty about which house on Stanmer Villas is The Ceramic House! Whereas previously visitors entered a tiled wonderland hidden within, now the Asturias Gateway gives an idea of what awaits! It is called the Asturias gateway as Kay has re-used her tile designs for her doorway commission in Asturias to create a new feature. With a background in site-specific public art commissions, Kay’s method of working is to respond to place, and for these tiles the inspiration came from Romanesque carvings in the local region of Asturias.
