Echo Ho is a Beijing-born, Cologne-based sound artist with an interdisciplinary approach. At various intersecting domains, she consistently consolidates very different elements from diverse media and genres. Her artworks seek to refract and transform perceptions of reality. During the past decade, Ho has mainly worked on a body of work entitled SlowQin, a hybrid resemblance of the Qin, a unique Chinese instrument with a musical history spanning three millennia. Undertaken with an open-ended rethinking process, she reinvents the Qin, adapting it for the creation of contemporary electro-acoustic music and performance.
Her current PhD, a practice-led artistic research at the Tangible Music Lab in Linz, aims to tinker and speculate on trans-embodiment in music-making. Ho’s works have been performed and exhibited at the He Xiangning Art Museum Shenzhen, Center-A Vancouver, ISEA and ZKM Karlsruhe, among others. Between 2011 and 2013 she was a Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Graduate School for Arts and Sciences at Berlin University of the Arts. From 2007 to 2013 she lectured at The Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
What an inspiring place! Great energy and lovely work – the combination of black and white “restraint” and exuberant colour works really well! And very friendly welcome! Very special.
