Jarõna Ilo

I am a ceramic artist, born in Estonia and currently working in Tallinn. I have a master’s degree from the Department of Ceramics at the Estonian Academy of Arts. For the past 20 years, I have been working as a freelance studio ceramist in Katariina Guild Ceramic Studio. I am also running a ceramics studio at the KUMU Art Museum and am a member and the former chairman of the board of the Estonian Ceramics Association.

I am inspired by the uniqueness of ceramics, which stems from the artist’s unique manual contribution, always making the result special and one of a kind. I have always been fascinated with porcelain, and in recent years, especially with paper porcelain. Somehow, working with this material almost feels like drawing …

My work has been exhibited in Denmark, South Korea, Russia, France, Hungary and Estonia. It can be found in permanent collections of the Arctic Ceramic Centre in Posio, Finland, as well as the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design in Tallinn.
