Rūta Bartkevičiūtė studied at Vilnius Academy of Art and gained a ceramists master’s degree in 2013. Since 2008 she has participated in many group exhibitions , symposia and residencies in Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Denmark, Italy and the UK and has had four solo shows.
Her work reveals a vivid and clear connection to her nation, Lithuania, its history and people. Her designs are inspired by ancient Baltic symbols, particularly the tree of life. She imbues her contemporary interpretation of this source material with playful form, bright colour and other symbolic elements. Themes include the cycle of life, nature, harmony, love and happiness portraying a world charged with positive energy and a permanent feeling of the fecundity of spring.
